The bitcoin standard is the essential guide to bitcoin’s history, properties, use cases, and future
In The Bitcoin Standard, economist Saifedean Ammous takes the reader on a fascinating journey through the rich history of the technologies behind money. He explains how these technologies gained and lost their monetary roles, what this teaches us about the ideal characteristics of money, and how Bitcoin was designed to fulfill them.
The Benefits of Sound Money
Ammous explores how the economic, social, cultural, and political advantages of sound money over unsound money create space for an informed discussion about Bitcoin’s potential role in the digital economy of the future.
Bitcoin as an Alternative to Central Banking
Rather than a currency for criminals or a cheap payment network, this book argues that Bitcoin is developing into a decentralized, politically neutral, free-market alternative to national central banks — with potentially profound implications for individual freedom and prosperity.
An Essential Resource on Digital Money
For anyone seeking clarity and understanding about this new form of digital money, The Bitcoin Standard is the definitive resource.
Reviews
“The Bitcoin Standard should be required reading for everyone in modern society. It offers a concise, coherent narrative of monetary theory, the history of money, practical economics, and the impact of political policy on business, culture, and the economy. The book contains perhaps the best articulation of the virtues of sound money — and the dangers of weak currency — ever presented in modern business literature. It also masterfully debunks the myths of modern monetary theory and the broken ideas that have dominated fiat-economic thinking since the early 20th century.”
— From the foreword by Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy
“I have spent my entire career studying works on monetary theory, the gold standard, similar monetary systems, central banking, and proposals for monetary and financial reform. Only a small fraction of the books I’ve read can be judged as excellent.
Ammous’s book, The Bitcoin Standard, offers an excellent treatment of all these topics, along with illuminating perspectives on Bitcoin. It is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the role Bitcoin may play in our future system of free and sound money.”
